Moira Milne


About Me

Moira J. Milne, (B.Ed. (Music)) currently teaches Kindergarten and Classroom Music at Annie L. Gaetz School in Red Deer, Alberta.    Moira received her early music training in Saskatchewan and Manitoba and continued her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.  Upon moving to Alberta, Moira has taught in 5 different school districts teaching Kindergarten to gr. 11.


Moira has received numerous awards throughout her career:  the Alberta Choral Federation’s “Con Spirito” award recognizing outstanding contributions to the choral community ; the Kodaly Society of Canada’s “Music Education Excellence” Award for providing outstanding music education and most recently, as a semi-finalist,  the Province of Alberta’s “Excellence in Teaching” award for outstanding teaching.  Moira is a member of the Alberta Choral Federation, Music for Children - Carl Orff Canada, and the Kodaly Society of Canada.  She is frequently a supervising teacher for 3rd and 4th education students and has mentored many new music teachers through the RDSPD mentorship program.


Moira’s extra-curricular time is spent managing 2 school choirs, a handbell choir, a recorder club, a yearly musical, preparing each homeroom for festival competition,  recommendations to Alberta Children’s Choir and Orff Canada’s Children’s Day, liason to the Red Deer Symphony’s “Choir Kids” program and a music appreciation listening program.  Moira’s choirs have received consistent “gold” standards at music festivals and have frequently been invited to participate at the provincial festival.  In June 2013, her choir performed at the Lieutenant-Governor’s Distinguished Arts Awards Gala.


Moira enjoys her school and classroom the most – a place where she can learn along with her students and encourage them to love learning.
